Kelowna Raiders back on top of Thompson Okanagan lacrosse league - KELOWNANOW
The Kelowna Raiders reclaimed the Thompson Okanagan Senior C Lacrosse League (TOSLL) title by dominating the Kamloops Rattlers this past weekend.
The Raiders opened the best-of-three championship series with a 12-2 victory at home on Friday before cruising to a 22-0 win to claim the Rowcliffe Cup on Sunday.
With the victory, the Raiders have secured their spot in the upcoming provincial championships in Prince George, where the Kelowna squad will attempt to win a third consecutive BC title.
While the Raiders had a strong regular season that saw the team go 8-1 and defeat Kamloops on three separate occasions by a combined score of 53-16, last year’s loss against Armstrong lingered and showed that the league's top team was capable of being defeated.
But the Raiders remained confident in their game and controlled the entire series, not allowing Kamloops a chance to sneak away with a single win and force a series-deciding game three.
The Raiders will now head north to defend their provincial title with arguably an even stronger team than the previous squads that won the past two BC championships.
“In previous years, we've struggled offensively to get the ball going and then some games we'd rely on our defence to pick us up,” captain Andrew Garant told KelownaNow last week.
“But I feel like this year we were really well-rounded from the top end to the bottom. I think that's really kind of developed our full team game.”
